What is Zithromax (Azithromycin)?
Zithromax (Azithromycin) is an antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It is a macrolide-type antibiotic. Zithromax is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, including respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. Zithromax works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Zithromax is commonly used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:

Dosage and Direction
Zithromax is taken orally. The usual dose for adults is 500 mg once daily for three days. For children, the usual dose is 12 mg/kg (up to 500 mg) once daily for three days.
Precautions
Before taking Zithromax, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or a history of Long QT syndrome. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using Zithromax.
Contraindications
Zithromax is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to azithromycin, or any macrolide antibiotic. Patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice or liver dysfunction associated with prior azithromycin use should not take Zithromax.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects of Zithromax include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, and rash. Other side effects may occur, so talk to your doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms.
Drug Interactions
Zithromax may interact with other medications, so be sure to tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking before starting Zithromax.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Zithromax, take it as soon as possible. Do not take two doses at once.
Overdose
If you take too much Zithromax, contact your doctor or poison control center immediately.
Storage
Store Zithromax at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
